During the Great Crusade, Russ proved to be an unstoppable force, clearing entire sectors of xenos threats with terrifying efficiency. However, his relationship with the Emperor was complex; while he loved his father deeply, he often chafed against the Emperor's desire for a unified, rational galaxy that suppressed local traditions and superstitions. This tension culminated during the Horus Heresy, where Russ remained loyal to the Imperium but struggled with the betrayal of his brother Horus. He famously fought Horus during the Heresy, though not on Terra—that final, tragic confrontation fell to Sanguinius, who was slain by the Warmaster. Russ himself survived the war, and after the Heresy, he disappeared into the Warp, his ultimate fate remaining unknown. The Emperor ultimately killed Horus after Sanguinius's death.
