The Luna Wolves were the Legion of Horus Lupercal, the most versatile and favoured 'son' of the Emperor. In the 203rd year of the Great Crusade, the Emperor appointed Horus as Warmaster, leaving him in charge of the rest of the Crusade while the Emperor returned to Terra for a secret project. The Luna Wolves were at the forefront of the Great Crusade, which over two Terran centuries reached star systems more than 50,000 light years away from the Sol System. The series opener, Horus Rising, describes the seeds of heresy being sown within this Legion.

In Their Own Story

In the early years of the 31st millennium, during the 203rd year of the Great Crusade, the Luna Wolves served under their Primarch, Horus Lupercal. The focus of the opening novel, Horus Rising, is on Garviel Loken, a Space Marine Captain and leader of the Luna Wolves' 10th Company. The story describes the rise to power of Horus and sets the stage for the conflict to come, as the Emperor returns to Terra and leaves Horus in command.
